Starfield, The Callisto Protocol and the Dead Space remake are introspections, but sci-fi adventure Deliver Us to Mars points to a different space game.
Remakes of Starfield, The Callisto Protocol, and Dead Space are leading the space gaming renaissance, but Deliver Us Mars, the sci-fi adventure sequel to Steam hit Deliver Us to the Moon, currently on display at Gamescom 2022, it has a lot to offer. There is a focus on exploration and wonder rather than various shooting and combat.
If you haven't seen the Deliver Us To Mars beta game yet, it serves as a direct but stand-alone sequel to Dutch developer KeokeN Interactive's 2018 sci-fi sleeper hit Deliver Us To The Moon. In the original game, you play as a lone astronaut, sent to the moon to retrieve a rare item that is key to saving Earth from its impending energy crisis. Like its predecessor, Our Mars features no combat, but more of a puzzle platformer. . -and-problem-solving, a cross between Tomb Raider and Portals of sorts as you struggle to navigate and survive on a desolate red planet.
Speaking to PCGamesN at Gamescom 2022, Raynor Arkenbout, Narrative Designer on Deliver Us Mars, explained how the game will carve out its own niche within the increasingly populous space genre.
"I think it's understandable that there are so many space games," Arkenbout said. .
“We love the Callisto protocol. I can't wait to play it. But our game will definitely not be about fighting and shooting and that sort of thing. We certainly sat in our own part of that scene. Inherently, the game will be about something else, a narrative drama. It will take a very different fantasy."
As well as focusing on storytelling and problem solving, Deliver Us Mars has a neat cliff-climbing and manhandling mechanic, which makes the Martian geography feel suitably difficult, as your two climbing spikes are controlled independently. It's not Assassin's Creed, where jumping and free driving are done at the push of a button. If you don't want to fall to your death, you need to carefully time each location of the ax and alternate between different keys. Adjusting such mechanics is one of the reasons Deliver Us Mars has been delayed from its initial release date.
"We were doing very well," explains Arkenbout, "but I think we saw it and felt that if we give ourselves a little more time, we could really make the ambition that we keep talking about come true. It's about the Polish. I think the game It will be better if Kari takes a few months. People will be happy with him. I'll be happy with him. It was a tough decision, but I think it's the best decision I can make right now. Think of the players around the world. say 'finish it' instead of pushing the developer out the door.
Deliver Us Mars is now scheduled for release on February 2, 2023. In between, you can try some of the other best space games or maybe some of the best upcoming games or survival games for PC. PCGamesN reports live from Gamescom 2022 and will continue to bring you exclusives on all the great games released there.
